Mechanical Design Engineer (Part time to start)
GRI is commercializing and developing 3D, real-time radiation mapping, localization, and visualization technologies deployable on unmanned robotic platforms (e.g. drones and ground robots), manned vehicles, and in handheld configurations.
Join our growing team of experienced scientists and engineers and work in a dynamic startup environment where you can nerd out on the latest LiDAR sensors, robots, and computer vision techniques over an espresso and cookies.
In your role as a mechanical design engineer at GRI, you will be working on developing multi-sensor systems for real-time, 3D radiation mapping and supporting related projects.
This is a part-time position to start with the potential to expand into a full-time role. We are looking for a proactive, results-oriented candidate who is able to work independently and is excited to help build our company culture, as well as take on new responsibilities as we grow. There may also be opportunities to travel for field testing and demonstrations.
Role and Responsibilities:
Design multisensor hardware systems that integrate custom electronics
Work with a diverse team of scientists and engineers to integrate custom sensors
Build rugged systems for 3D mapping in nuclear/radiological environments
Work on modular component designs to implement across a large variety of platforms
Identify and select materials & components appropriate for robust prototype production
Design robustness and field testing
Optimize thermal management of electronic and computer units in handheld and vehicle mounted system
5+ years mechanical CAD experience with Solidworks
Experience integrating sensors, such as camera, LiDARs, GPS, etc.
Experience designing and shipping a product
B.S. or M.S. in mechanical engineering or related field
Bonus Skills and Experience:
Experience with programming, including Python and c++
Experience with radiation detection or a willingness and interest to learn
Experience with robotics design
